At the end of May we invited church youth groups from across our town for a Big Youth Night. Picture a typical ‘youth group’ but on a larger scale, gathering youth and their youth leaders in one place to mix, have loads of fun and to encounter God.
The first hour was a mix of activities: table tennis tournaments, table football, air hockey, pool, board games, TikTok dances, tuck, merch sale, chilling, making new friends, and crazy big games together.
The second hour we took time to focus on God. We launched the video from our weekend away, promoted new events coming up, then Ben and the band led us in a time of worship. Matt shared a little about what it means to meditate on scripture, and how Christian meditation is different to meditation within eastern religions. Sue Jolley then led a meditation based on Psalm 27, looking at what it means for God to be our light in tough situations, for when we face trials and enemies, how we can dwell in God’s presence each day and how He keeps us safe. It was astounding how each young person engaged, the floor was full of young people lying down on cushions, being open with God about all they are going through at present. Afterwards we gave opportunity for any to receive prayer, and a good number asked different team members to pray with them. A beautiful evening!
We have an amazing group of youth in our churches, who are open to God and making good choices to live their lives for Him.
Please pray for each young person that they know how to dwell with God alone, and be strengthened by Him each day, in the everyday.
