@burton_yfc And that is another weekend away finished. Thank you to all of the wonderful young people who joined us this year, and our amazing team. #youthforchrist #burton #yfc #youth #church
Every year we run a youth weekend away for church young people across our town – and this March we had the awesome opportunity to go to Alton Castle again for the weekend with 75 young people aged 11 – 18, youth leaders and volunteers from Elim, Riverside and the Community Church.
Our theme was DWELL, where we spent the weekend unpacking Psalm 23 during 4 main sessions, looking at how God is our shepherd, how he walks with us through dark valleys as our protection and guide, how he combats the lies we can believe about ourselves and restores our identity, and how we can walk with him each day, knowing his goodness and mercy. We had the best weekend! Four young people decided to become a Christian, and lots of young people made really good choices in their journey of faith and were able to ask for prayer. During the last session young people were given the opportunity to write their own version of Psalm 23. Everyone was then given the chance to share their Psalm or a story from the weekend about how God had spoken to them.
“The weekend away filled me with hope and love for God and his plans for me. The team did everything they could to make the weekend brilliant.”
Young Person Attending for the First Time
In and around the four main sessions was a huge amount of craziness as well, with an underlying ‘traitors/suspicion’ game running throughout the weekend. We also had party bingo, ‘fancy dress’ movie singalongs, football tournaments, walks in the countryside, small groups, hunting plastic sheep, dance workshops, gorgeous meals, endless tuck and coffee to keep us going. There were positive relationships built, new friendships made, laughter throughout, and such a sense of the presence of God in everything.
